This Cookies Policy explains how Progressive Robot Ltd ("Progressive Robot", "we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Progressive Robot News & Magazine website at blog.progressiverobot.com (the "Site"). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more generally.
1. What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. Cookies let the site recognise your browser on a return visit, remember your preferences, secure your session, and measure how the site is used. We also use a few related technologies — such as local storage in your browser, pixel tags inside emails, and similar identifiers in mobile apps and embedded players — and we refer to all of them as "cookies" in this policy.
2. Categories of cookies we use
We group the cookies we use into four categories. Only the first category is set without your consent; the others are set only after you agree, and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie controls described below.
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the Site to function. They cannot be switched off in our systems. They are typically set in response to actions made by you, such as signing in, setting your privacy preferences, or submitting a form. Examples include:
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in as you move between pages;
- A CSRF (cross-site request forgery) token that protects forms from being submitted by malicious sites;
- A consent cookie that records your cookie choices so we do not have to ask you again on every page.
You can configure your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the Site will not then work.
2.2 Functional cookies
These cookies allow the Site to remember choices you make — such as your preferred language, the appearance theme (light/dark), text size, autoplay preferences, and whether you have dismissed certain notices. Without them, you would have to set these preferences again on every visit.
2.3 Analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Site so that we can improve it. They tell us, in aggregate, which pages are most read, how long people spend on each page, which links are clicked, and where visitors come from. Where possible, we use analytics tools in a pseudonymised or anonymised configuration (for example by truncating IP addresses) and we do not use analytics data to identify individual readers.
2.4 Advertising & third-party cookies
Where the Site shows third-party advertising or embeds content from third parties (for example videos, social posts or maps), those third parties may set their own cookies. Advertising cookies may be used to limit the number of times you see the same advertisement, to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns, and — where you consent — to show advertising that is more likely to be relevant to you. We do not control these third-party cookies; you should review the privacy and cookie notices of the relevant third parties for full information.
3. First-party and third-party cookies
First-party cookies are set by Progressive Robot directly. Examples include the session, CSRF and consent cookies described above, and the cookies we use to remember your display preferences.
Third-party cookies are set by domains other than ours, typically when we embed content or use a service operated by another company. Examples may include analytics providers, advertising networks, embedded video players (such as YouTube), embedded social posts, and CDN or anti-abuse services. These third parties are responsible for their own privacy and cookie practices.
4. How long cookies last
Cookies are either session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which remain on your device for a fixed period or until you delete them.
- Session cookies are used to keep you signed in and to protect forms while you are on the Site.
- Persistent cookies are used to remember your consent choices and preferences across visits. Their lifetimes vary by purpose; consent and preference cookies typically last for up to twelve months before we ask you to confirm them again.
5. Managing your cookie choices
5.1 On the Site
The first time you visit the Site we ask you to choose which non-essential cookies you are willing to accept. You can change your choices at any time by opening the cookie-preferences link in our site footer, or by clearing the consent cookie in your browser, which will cause us to ask you again on your next visit.
5.2 In your browser
Most browsers let you view, manage, block and delete cookies through their settings. The exact steps differ by browser, but you will typically find these options under "Privacy", "Security" or "Cookies and site data" in the browser’s settings menu. Blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, will prevent parts of the Site from working.
5.3 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) header or the newer "Global Privacy Control" (GPC) signal. Where applicable law treats GPC as a valid expression of consent withdrawal, we honour it for the categories of processing within its scope. There is no agreed industry standard for DNT, and we do not currently respond to DNT headers beyond what is already covered by your cookie choices.
6. Cookies in our newsletters
Our newsletters may use tracking pixels and tagged links so that we can understand, in aggregate, which subjects readers find useful. You can opt out by clicking the unsubscribe link at the foot of any newsletter, or by configuring your email client to block remote content.
7. Mobile and embedded environments
If the Site is loaded inside a mobile application, a webview or another embedded environment (for example, an in-app browser inside a social-media app), additional identifiers controlled by the host application may apply. These are governed by the host application’s privacy and cookie practices.
8. Children
The Site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly use cookies to track children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data through cookies or otherwise, please contact [email protected].
9. Changes to this Cookies Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, the law, or industry guidance. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the most recent revision. Where changes are material we will surface a notice on the Site and, where required, ask you to renew your consent.
10. Contact
For questions about this Cookies Policy or about specific cookies on the Site, please contact our Data Protection Officer at [email protected] or telephone +44 (0) 1244 911212.
