Fable To Launch Cross-Platform Despite Xbox Gaming Reevaluating Exclusives

Since the recent rumblings about the return of exclusive games from both sides of the console war battlefield, there have been questions about the launch strategy of certain cross-platform games. One of those games that raised questions is Playground Games's Fable, which is slated to launch sometime between September and December 2026. In light of recent questions from the community about the previously announced PlayStation 5 launch of Fable, Playground Games has officially confirmed on social media platform, X, that the game "will be available at launch on Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, Steam, and PlayStation 5."

The exact release date has not yet been announced beyond "autumn 2026," but the studio has confirmed that it will be a single-player, open-world ARPG that features exploration, character customization, choices-matter gameplay, and a variety of both in-depth combat and life sim gameplay. It's unclear if Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games are only launching Fable as a cross-platform title in order to follow through on the original plan or if this is some sort of signal that Xbox will still launch games on multiple platforms on launch day.
