The first benchmarks of Intel's Core i7-14700HX "Raptor Lake-HX Refresh" CPU have leaked out and it shows a promising uplift over its predecessor.

The Intel Core i7-14700HX is the successor to the Core i7-13700HX and is part of the 14th Gen Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPU family for notebook chips. The CPU offers 20 cores (8+12), 28 threads, a frequency of 2.3 GHz base, & up to 5.5 GHz boost clocks. The chip also offers 33 MB of L3 cache. The chip will feature a base TDP of 55W and an MTP (Maximum Turbo Power of 157W).

Compared to its predecessor, the Core i7-13700HX, Intel's Core i7-14700HX CPU offers a 25% uplift in core count, a 16% uplift in thread count, 3 MB extra L3 cache, and a 400-500 MHz increase in the clock speeds. This should mark a nice performance increment over its predecessor, unlike the top i9 chip which should only benefit from a clock speed increase.

The CPU was spotted running within ACER's Nitro AN17-72 laptop with 32 GB of DDR5 memory and the 14700HX achieved a top clock speed of around 5.5 GHz which is very impressive. We can expect the top Core i9-14900HX to end up over 5.5 GHz boost if proper cooling is maintained.

Coming to the performance benchmarks, the Intel Core i7-14700HX CPU scored 2921 points in the single-core and 17,475 points within the multi-core tests. For comparison, the Core i7-13700HX gets around 2650-2700 points in single-core and 14,500-15,000 points in multi-core tests. This marks a performance improvement of up to 10% in single-core and 20% in multi-core tests. Following are the comparisons:

The Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh is mostly just the same lineup with a few SKU changes here and there. The good thing is that it will be priced the same as the existing 13th Gen chip so we can expect slightly faster enthusiast-grade laptops at the same prices. The lineup will be making debut at CES 2024.
