OneXPlayer 2 Pro Handheld Launched: Ryzen 7 8840U Matches Intel 155H At Just 15W, $1049 US Price

OneXPlayer 2 Pro handheld has now gone official with the console featuring the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and a starting price of $1049 US.

OneXPlayer is known for its high-end handheld gaming console offerings including its recent 3-in-1 offering based on the Intel Core Ultra platform. Now, the manufacturer has unveiled its latest hand held gaming device, the OneXPlayer 2 Pro, offering the brand new AMD Ryzen 8040 APUs known as Hawk Point.

The OneXPlayer 2 Pro is a direct upgrade from the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U to the Ryzen 7 8840U. It packs a total of 8 Zen 4 cores with 16 threads, 8 MB of L2 cache, and 16 MB of L3 cache. The chip is clocked at a base frequency of 3.3 GHz and boosts up to 5.1 GHz with a TDP that can be configured between 15-30W. The chip also packs the Radeon 780M iGPU with 12 compute units clocked at 2.70 GHz and an NPU which offers up to 16 AI TOPs for a combined 38 TOPS compute performance out of the box.

According to the manufacturer itself, the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U APU at 15-20W matches the Intel Core Ultra 155H in terms of CPU and gaming performance with the latter running at a higher 28 Watt TDP. This shows the efficiency advantage of AMD's Zen 4 core architecture and it also boasts superior AI capabilities versus the Intel chip which tops out at 11 TOPS. In a video, the chip runs at 55C peak temperatures which is quite good for a 15-20W configured chip.

The OneXPlayer 2 Pro handheld will be available in several configurations which include a 32 GB + 1 TB model with a starting price of $1049 US and a slightly higher-end configuration with double the storage (2 TB) for a price of $1149 US. According to OneXPlayer, the handheld will be available for pre-orders starting 13th March at midnight.
