Trump Mobile Has a Data Leak Problem: Emails and Phone Numbers Allegedly Involved

If you pre-ordered the Trump Mobile T1 phone, there is a good chance your personal data could be at risk of being compromised. This is according to a recent video by YouTuber Coffeezilla, who reported the leak on his second channel, voidzilla, after having been tipped off by an anonymous source.

According to the video, by placing fake orders for the phone, they were able to “scrape and search the entire pre-order database.” This included data such as email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses. Thankfully, credit card details were not part of the leak, but still. Coffeezilla and another YouTuber, penguinz0, have confirmed this to be the case.

The anonymous source also claimed to have reached out to Trump Mobile to let them know about the potential leak. However, they have yet to receive a response. But as it turns out, this was made possible through the alleged use of a simple security exploit. This means that the Trump Mobile website isn’t as secure as one might think.

But what’s interesting is that this exploit allowed them to see how many people actually ordered the phone.

About 10,000 unique customer IDs could have been compromised by the data leak. There were also about 30,000 orders placed through the website. Even if we’re generous and assume that people are ordering more than one T1 phone, that’s a far cry from the alleged 600,000 pre-orders that were previously reported.

If that wasn’t potentially embarrassing enough, the T1 phone is now only shipping out to customers. The device was announced last year as a proudly made-in-America handset. However, it was delayed for the longest time ever, and now, it claims to be only assembled in the US.

This has opened up the phone to criticism and an investigation by the FTC, along with some playful mockery by other phone makers. In any case, now that the vulnerability has been exposed, hopefully Trump Mobile is working to close the hole.
